Benthic macroinvertebrate community structure in a stream of the north-west region of Paraná State, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Bagatini,Yara Moretto; Delariva,Rosilene Luciana; Higuti,Janet.
This study aimed to survey the benthic macroinvertebrate fauna of a first order stream located in an agricultural area, and to assess the environmental factors involved in the spatial distribution of this community. Invertebrates were gathered in November 2007 at three sampling sites distributed along the Itiz Stream, located in Marialva municipality, Paraná State. At each site, we measured the physical and chemical variables of the water, and then took four samples, using Surber sampler. In order to evaluate the differences in density, richness, diversity and evenness, we employed an ANOVA and a DCA to summarize biotic data. The invertebrates were categorized into functional groups and the BMWP score was applied to calculate the biological integrity of...

Diet and ecomorphological relationships of an endemic, species-poor fish assemblage in a stream in the Iguaçu National Park Neotropical Ichthyology
Neves,Mayara Pereira; Delariva,Rosilene Luciana; Wolff,Luciano Lazzarini.
This study investigated the morphological and dietary relationships of the fish assemblage in a stream with an endemic fauna and low species richness. The ichthyofauna was sampled quarterly from September 2011 to July 2012, through the electrofishing technique. The stomach contents of 419 individuals belonging to seven species were analyzed by the volumetric method, and the ecomorphological traits of 30 specimens of each species were estimated. The main food items consumed were detritus, aquatic and terrestrial insects, and other aquatic invertebrates. We observed low levels of trophic niche breadth and diet overlap between most species. The PCA scores indicated the occurrence of three ecomorphotypes. PCA axis 1 segregated at one extreme, species with...

Diet and trophic guilds of fish assemblages in two streams with different anthropic impacts in the northwest of Paraná, Brazil Rev. Bras. Zool.
Bonato,Karine Orlandi; Delariva,Rosilene Luciana; Silva,Jislaine Cristina da.
In the present study, we describe the diets of the fish assemblages in two streams in the Maringá region of Paraná that are under the influence of different anthropic impacts. We also evaluate how the origin and use of food resources varies temporally and spatially and how the trophic organization of the fish assemblages differs between the two streams. Fish were collected every two months from October 2006 to October 2007 using sieves, seining and closing nets along two 50 m stretches of each stream. We used the volumetric method to analyze the stomach contents of 599 fish belonging to 15 species. We then employed ANOSIM, SIMPER, NMDS and cluster analyses (using the Bray-Curtis index) to examine how different factors (species, stream, sampling site and...

Diet of a catfish before and after damming of the salto caxias reservoir, iguaçu river BABT
Delariva,Rosilene Luciana; Hahn,Norma Segatti; Gomes,Luiz Carlos.
This study evaluated the diet of Pimelodus sp., before and after damming of Salto Caxias, (waterfall in the Iguaçu river), as well spatial and ontogenetic diet shift. Surveys were carried out from March 1997 to February 1998 (before damming) and from April 1999 to January 2000 (after damming) inside the reservoir and adjacent tributaries. Stomach contents analysis of 682 specimens revealed omnivory with high degree of trophic opportunism to this species. Analysis of variance (three way ANOVA) for scores produced from Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) yielded a significant interaction between the damming phases and size of the individuals (juveniles and adults) (F = 4.68; P = 0.04). After damming, adults exploited mainly fish, whereas the juveniles...

Effects of river damming in Neotropical piscivorous and omnivorous fish: feeding, body condition and abundances Neotropical Ichthyology
Pereira,Larissa Strictar; Agostinho,Angelo Antonio; Delariva,Rosilene Luciana.
ABSTRACT The increase in abundance of small-sized fishes is common after a reservoir is formed. There is an increase in the consumption of fish, from typically piscivorous fish to opportunistic species that take advantage of abundant resources. This study aims to evaluate the effects of diet changes induced by damming on the feeding activity and condition factor of typically piscivorous (Hoplias aff. malabaricus and Oligosarcus longirostris ) and opportunistic (Astyanax lacustris (ex Astyanax altiparanae ) and Pimelodus britskii ). Sampling was conducted before and after the impoundment in the Iguaçu River in the region of Salto Caxias, Paraná State, Brazil. Stomach contents were analysed by the volumetric method. Feeding activity and body condition were...

Histopathological alterations in Astyanax bifasciatus (Teleostei: Characidae) correlated with land uses of surroundings of streams Neotropical Ichthyology
Nimet,Jardel; Amorim,João Paulo de Arruda; Delariva,Rosilene Luciana.
ABSTRACT This study evaluated gills and liver of Astyanax bifasciatus as histological biomarkers for biomonitoring of streams along areas with different land uses. The fish were collected by electrofishing in six streams in the basin of the lower Iguaçu River. The objective was to correlate the presence and degree of histopathological alterations of gills and liver with the environmental variables among streams along different land uses. The low frequency of histopathological alterations found in fish from the forest streams suggested normal organ functioning. In fish from the rural and urban streams, the histopathological alterations occurred were in higher frequency, indicated light to moderate damage in gills and liver of fish from the rural streams,...

Ichthyofauna of streams from the lower Iguaçu River basin, Paraná State, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Larentis,Crislei; Delariva,Rosilene Luciana; Gomes,Louise Cristina; Baumgartner,Dirceu; Ramos,Igor Paiva; Sereia,Diesse Aparecida de Oliveira.
Abstract The drainages of the Iguaçu River basin, as well as the main channel of the river, have peculiar characteristics resulting from geomorphological processes in this area, including the formation of the Iguaçu River Falls. This slope in the lower portion of the basin is a biogeographical barrier to many organisms. In this study was inventoried the fish fauna of streams of the lower Iguaçu River basin, evaluating possible differences in the species composition upstream and downstream of this biogeographical barrier. Sampling were conducted between 2004 and 2013, in five streams, three upstream and two downstream of the Iguaçu River Falls, using electrofishing. The nMDS analysis was run to investigate possible groupings of similar fauna between the...
